Kulanite is a mineral discovered by Alan Kulan, a prospector who also found several deposits of lead, zinc and silver. Kulan found the first kulanite at RaPid Creek, Yukon, Canada, while prospecting for minerals. He submitted his discovery to the Royal Ontario Museum, where it was first described in 1976 by Joseph A. Mandarino and B. D. Sturman.
